February 27, 1941 – November 11, 2020
On November 11, 2020, Peggy Joan (Hicks) Minnich, of Pensacola, FL, passed away. Peg was born in Durham, NC on February 27, 1941. She was a loving wife, mother, and a beloved grandmother (Mimi).
She and Chuck had a marriage of 61 years and it was a true partnership of friendship, love, and respect. Introduced on a blind date, they instantly knew they had something special. They became inseparable, spending their life together dancing, entertaining, and traveling.
Throughout their life together, they lived in Texas, New Jersey, Georgia, and for the last 21 years, Pensacola, making lifelong friends in each place.
Early on Peg enjoyed modeling, teaching at their children’s Montessori School, and began her lifelong passion for arts and crafts. She was a creative soul and enjoyed painting, ceramics, and decorating.
As their children grew her interests expanded. She was a smart, independent woman and didn’t let much keep her from pursuing what she wanted. She opened her own bicycle shop at a time when not many women-owned their own businesses. She also supported others by donating countless personal hours to the Symphony, the church choir, and Habitat for Humanity.
When Chuck retired, they moved to Pensacola so they could spend more time sailing. There she helped her daughter and son-in-law launch their first restaurant (eat!) and started her own gourmet food market (eat! at home). This was borne out of her love for cooking and entertaining.
She was fortunate to spend a great deal of time with her grandchildren. Her legacy lives on through their adoption of her creative gifts. She will be dearly missed.
Peg was preceded in death by her parents: Beatrice E. Sheppard Hicks, Waightsel T. Hicks, and her younger sister, Carolyn (Hicks) Pascucci of Tampa, FL.
Peg is survived by her loving husband, Charles F. Minnich, her son, Cortlandt A. Minnich (Nancy Adams Minnich), her daughter, Heather L. Minnich (Lee Lucier), and her grandchildren, Madison T. Minnich, Carter A. Minnich, Healey F. Lucier, Bruyere L. Lucier, Escher A. Lucier, and her younger sister, Katie (Hicks) Covington, of Tampa, FL. She also leaves behind two nieces and two nephews.
Celebration of Life service will be held on February 28, 2021, at the Pensacola Yacht Club.
