Obituary

Johnny Mack Hughes, 72, of Milton passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2020. Born in Johnson City, Tennessee, Mack was adopted by Dewey and Lee Hughes.

Mack and his previous wife had one daughter, Aletha and he adopted his wife’s children, Vanessa, Neva, and Craig.

After leaving Tennessee, Mack moved to Florida to start a new life. It’s agreed he actually came to find his wife, Antoinette. They would be together 39 years.

Mack’s quiver became full by the birth of Jacob, Leighann, Ernest, and Carrie. The family got bigger with grandchildren: Camati, Cameron, Camilya, Isabell, Theus, and Grayson.

Mack was a simple yet complex man. He loved motorcycles, music, Wizard of Oz memorabilia, the movie Josie Wells, strange hats, travel, buttermilk and cornbread, and overalls with dress shoes.

Mack was an honorable man having earned the Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation. But he always said, “nobody on both sides wanted to be there”.

Mack was a man we depended on, dropping everything to care for family but could not be “played”. But most of all he was a man of great faith and would tell you, “Jesus is coming—better get right”.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until funeral service begins at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at Trahan Family Funeral Home, Milton Chapel.

Burial will follow at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.
