Obituary for Jannie Mae "Big Mama" Hickenbottom

Jannie Mae Hickenbottom also known as "Big Mama" 87, was born in Greenville, Alabama on March 12, 1933 to the late Henry and Irma Coleman.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend. On Thursday August 6, 2020 God sent his angels to her bedside who softly whispered, "It is time to rest". Jannie grew up in Greenville, Alabama and later moved to Pensacola, Florida and started a life of her own.
Jannie was joined in matrimony to David Lee Hickenbottom for over 50 years.
She accepted Christ at a young age and served faithfully with Gulf Coast Church of Christ under the leadership of Evangelist Nathaniel B. Nicks. Jannie was a God-fearing woman with a heart of gold. She never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. She truly enjoyed singing gospel hymns, cooking, and eating soul food. Jannie was an entrepreneur; she owned several businesses including a retail store and rental properties. Her memorable life was spent surrounded by family and friends that she touched in numerous ways.
She was preceded in death by David Lee Hickenbottom (husband), Irma and Henry Coleman (parents), Kimberlee Bender (daughter), Willie Hunter (son), Henry Coleman, Cleve Coleman, Ralph Coleman, Johnny Coleman, Finnie Coleman, Jerry Gulley (brothers), Esthes Davis, Mary Henderson, Tessie Howard (sisters), and Hardee Bender (Grandson).
Jannie is survived by three sons, Larry Bender (Mamie), Roger Bender, and Tyrone Bender (Betty); one loving daughter, Elaine Pugh (Eddie); grandchildren, Surita Boggan (Robert), Jannie Guyton, Janekca Guyton, Elena Garay (Anjel), Tasha Bender, Larry Bender Jr, Christopher Glover, Roger Bender Jr, Lakeatha Bender, Martez Clark (Angelica), Roderick Bender, Deangelo Bender, Karen Bell, Tyrone Bender Jr, Tajuana Mendenhall, Rhonda Houze, fifty-eight great-grandchildren; eighteen great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Jimmy Coleman, Harold Coleman; one sister, Irene Coleman; a special great-grandchild who she raised as her own, Angel Bryant; devoted nephew, Webbie D. Burnette; devoted niece, Ima Jean Herbert; devoted Mobile, Alabama family, Annie King, Jean Carl , Emma Williams, Gail Williams, and Sharon Turner; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
