Obituary

Dorothy Sunday Houston, born June 19, 1929, went home to be with the Lord on July 24, 2020.

She was married for 70 years to the love of her life, Joe Houston.

Dorothy’s life revolved around her family. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and woman of God. She lived a life of giving, being a friend, showing kindness and cooking great meals. She was an excellent seamstress and gardener, also. She will be remembered for her chicken and dumplings and seafood gumbo.

She was preceded in death by her husband and granddaughter, Tami Houston.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Linda (Ed) Shutze; sons, Jerry (Lou Ann), and Danny (Patty); 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 5 great great-grandchildren and 3 sisters.

Dorothy worked outside the home at St. Regis papermill, Mayes Printing Company and Sam’s Club as a product demonstrator. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her kind and sweet ways.

Dorothy had lots of friends and family, but due to the current health concerns, the service is limited to immediate family. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 28th at Beulah Baptist Church with burial to follow at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Pine Forest Assembly of God Church.

Ms. Houston (or Dot as my family called her) was a wonderful and generous woman and a great friend to my family. Many times myself and my mother and father would get together at Joe and Dot's house and share a meal. After my father passed away, Dot and my mother remained close friends. I am so grateful for that. After my heart surgery, Dot came by to visit me. Seeing her smiling face was a great pick me up. I remember when I was young, Dot would take me and her grandchildren to the movies. We would all pile into her Yellow VW bug. Great childhood memories. Dot was always busy and on the go, but always made time for family and friends. My mother and I will always remember her and think about her often. Rest well Dot. We will never forget you.
