Obituary for Melanie Renee Mears

Melanie Renee Mears, 56, passed into the hands of Jesus with her husband, Ralph Mears, by her side and ever faithful on June 1, 2020.

Born to Curtis J. Nixon and Blanche K. Nixon as the youngest child with four older sisters and two older brothers on September 4, 1963 at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Florida. She attended school exclusively in Pensacola and she graduated from Tate high school in 1981.

She met her husband of 36 years, Ralph Mears, as a young teen and they married January 13, 1984. They moved to Pace to start their family. Ralph, with Melanie’s support, grew a very successful business building custom homes. In addition to working in the family business, Melanie also acted as a homemaker and turned their house into a home worthy of their children. Their first daughter, Ginger, was born September 1989. Candice, their second daughter, joined the family in October 1991.

Melanie was a bright and lively individual who loved all the world had to offer in the form of God’s many blessings. She enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing with her family. She cheered both daughters on at every one of their soccer games and track meets from middle school to high school. Her devotion to the care of her family shone brightly in everything she did and said.

She attended First Pentecostal Church in Pensacola where she and Ralph were very involved in multiple ministries, such as teaching bible studies and helping in the visitor’s center to welcome new church members. Melanie was a woman of very strong faith and through her words and actions, she spread the love of Jesus to all who needed it. She had a smile that could lighten painful burdens and bring joy to any gathering.

Melanie was “Neena” to four grandchildren: Caden, Taylin, Hollie, and Christian who she loved more than anything. She continued the tradition of camping, boating, and fishing with her grandbabies.

Melanie is preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Blanche Nixon; her sister, Kathy; her sister-in-law, Tammy Mears; and her brother-in-law, James Waldrop. She is survived by her husband, Ralph Mears; daughters, Ginger (Ben) Shell and Candice Allen; four grandchildren; brothers-in-law: Robert (Jeanne) Mears, Oscar (Christy) Mears, Jamie (Linda) Mears; sisters: Shirley Waldrop, Janie, Gayle; brothers, Wayne Nixon and Larry Nixon; her niece/sister, Sandra Holcombe; and many nieces and nephews.
