Jack Sheldon Van Ord, Sr of Cantonment FL, died Thursday May 14, 2020 at Bay Breeze Senior Living and Rehabilitation Center of Gulf Breeze, FL after suffering a series of strokes. He was born August 3, 1938 in Greenville, PA to Theodore Van Ord and Velma Regal. He spent many years in an orphan’s home with his siblings and other family members and as a teenager joined the US Army during the Korean War. He was a Private in the 82nd Airborne Division. After his military service, he worked for the Timkin Roller Ball Bearing Company in Canton, OH retiring in the late 70’s. He was a Soldier and volunteered for The Salvation Army for over 25 years. Jack was an Ordained Minister and in 1991 he founded Emerald Coast Ministries in Pensacola, FL. He was an advocate for the homeless to find shelter, food and God’s message of salvation. He was active in Kiwanis’s until his health began to decline.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, his son Joseph, great grandchildren Emily Cayson and David E. Van Ord, brothers Terry Van Ord, Teddy Van Ord and David Farencik, wives Dorothy Mortimer, Rosemary Kiefer and Ila Jean DeLong.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Susan Johnson Van Ord of Cantonment, FL, his children Grace (William) Phillips of Avery TX; Joann (Lonewolf) Calvin, Jack (Brandi) Van Ord, Jr both of Canton, OH; Linda (John) Nemes of Hermitage, PA; Carol (Frederick) McGhee and Charles (Kathy Ranson) Durell both of Pensacola, FL; His grandchildren David Van Ord of Grove City, PA; Carrie Jo Clark of Minerva, OH; Crystal Dargrepont of Pensacola, FL; Cherie Raybon of Texarkana, TX; Larry (Leah) McGhee of Atlanta, GA; Shannon McGhee and Thomas McGhee of Pensacola, FL. He has 9 great-grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
His surviving siblings are Patricia (Walt) Edgell of Canton, OH; Edith Bunny Gilbert of Saginaw, MI; Sarah Van Ord Kolasa of Orange City, FL; Mike Ferenick (Sandy McFarland) of Sharpsville, PA; Joe Ferencik (Hope Vantassel) of Greenville PA; Gary (Jerri) Ferencik of Sharpsville PA; John (Charlene) Ferencik of Canton, OH; Maryanne Flynn Black of Masury OH; Barbara Wheeler (Ron Vigilo) of Wheatland PA; Sister in law Lisa Ferenick of Sharon PA; brother in law James (Peggy) Johnson of Old Town, FL; Sister in laws Belinda (Mikko) Matero of Warsaw, IN and Lynda (Michael) Howell of Tallahassee, FL and his best friend Alan Kester of Cantonment, FL.

You showed true love and compassion with each interaction you had with Jack and it did not go unnoticed. Although Jack was not a patient with Covenant Care Hospice, their support and concern for the family was immense. We will be eternally grateful for all those involved in his care!
Arrangements are being handled by Trahan Family Funeral Home with graveside services scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at 10:00 am, burial at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery 1300 E. Hayes St, Pensacola, FL with Pastor Sylvester Jones officiating. Active pallbearers will be Charles Durell, Thomas McGhee, Frederick McGhee, Leo Budianto, Anastasia Budianto and Lynda Howell. Honorary pallbearers are Alan Kester, Jack Gander and Marshall Kennan.
