Thomas H. Hughes
1945 - 2020
Thomas H. Hughes was born in Pensacola, Florida to William T. Hughes and Mary J Knowles on September 16, 1945. He grew up with his siblings in East Hill, where they attended East Hill Baptist Church, enjoyed fishing and learned to swim at the foot of Pensacola Bay Bridge. Tom graduated from Pensacola High School and went on to make cast nets for the local area. He became a career fisherman, working for the famous Joe Patti’s for many years and holds the record of most Mullet caught at 17,000lbs. He served his country for six years as a member of the Army Reserves.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary J. Jackson, stepfather, Harvey J. Jackson and father, William T. Hughes.
He leaves to cherish his memory his sweetheart and wife of 56 years, Shirley Hughes; sister, Nancy Hughes and Dwight; brothers, Johnnie M. Hughes and Bev., and William Ronnie Hughes; stepbrother, Ray Jackson; sister-in-law, Sandi Vallia and Steve; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family would like to thank Frank Patti and the entire Patti family for the thoughtfulness, generosity, and friendship throughout the many years.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Pensacola Baptist Temple (5000 Cerny Road, Pensacola 32526) on April 4, 2020 at 2:00 pm.
