James "Buddy" Hopkins Sr.
1944 - 2020
James "Buddy" Hopkins Sr., 76, of Milton, Florida, passed away on February 16, 2020. Buddy was born in Pensacola, Florida on January 31, 1944 to his parents, Rollie and Mary (Emmons) Hopkins.
In his younger years, Daddy enjoyed fishing for bream and catfish. Then along in 1963 came the love of his life and in 1965 a 55 year adventure full of ups and downs began; from cross country adventures to long nights at the races- 3 kids, 5 grandbabies, and 7 great-grandbabies; there was never a dull moment.
Survived by his wonderful and loving wife of 55 years, Sue; his children, Sandy, Jimmy (Angel), and Chris; 5 grandchildren, Jessica (Charlie), Wesley (Kimberly), Courtney (Oscar), Katelyn (Cory) and Jacob (Abby); 7 great-grandchildren, Alilah, Dylan, Bradley, Mason, Maxton, Lakelynn and Laine; sister, Alice (Henry); brother, Ronnie (Brenda), a host of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews and many cousins.
No matter what was going on, his daughter was always by his side- from fox hunting to traveling to San Diego on a cross country adventure to visit his sister Alice. Every year he would go hunting with his daddy, son Jimmy, brother Ronnie, and nephew Greg along with many of his cousins. Later on, he enjoyed owning and working on race cars with his sons and watching them race on the local dirt tracks. Towards the end he would sit in front of the tv listening to the races and every now and then would venture out to watch his grandson race.
Once the grand babies came along, he found himself a new love, spending time with all 5 of them. Then the great grand babies came, and his heart expanded with love for all 7 of them. Hearing them laugh and run though out the house just made him smile. He would talk about the babies and how much he loved them.
Family was very important to Daddy, every get together always had a story (or three) from the good old days. Even when he couldn't get out of the house, he enjoyed hearing stories of our adventures.
Buddy’s service will be Thursday, February 20, 2020, at Trahan Family Funeral Home. The visitation will begin at 12:00, with his service at 1:00. Interment will follow at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.
