Ethel Weaver Payne, 78, passed away in Pensacola, Fl on January 27, 2020. She was born in Miami, Fl to Thomas Albert Weaver and Novella Weaver-Webb. Ethel grew up in Key West, Fl. She had many fond memories of President Harry S. Truman and Ernest Hemingway- who were friends and frequent visitors at her parents Key West Hotel and Establishment. Ethel was a Pensacola High School, Class of 1958, graduate and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BA in Political Science from Western Carolina University.
Ethel helped many children throughout the years, and was a staunch advocate for children, especially those with learning disabilities. Ethel also had an amazing talent and love for gardening. During the years she lived in Waynesville, NC, many photographed her gardens. Numerous friends and strangers often sought her advice for their own gardens and plants.
Ethel is survived by her sons: James Payne, Michael (Kami) Payne, and Thomas (Jan) Payne; grandchildren: Harrison, Madison, Wade, Ashley, Whitney and Wesley; brother: Thomas (Emily) Weaver; nephew: Thomas; niece: Mary Ella; along with numerous great-grandchildren and special friends, Lil and Herb Ferreira.
Ethel’s love for her children was abundant. Although we know Ethel is now with her Lord and Savior, she will be dearly missed.
