I met Laura when I was just a kid in the same church. As a teenager/young adult, I babysat her boys for her. As an adult, I ended up living right around the corner. Occasionally, we would walk through the neighborhood together. We covered all sorts of topics on those walks; from her boys, her time as a dispatcher, to more trivial things like who in the neighborhood did or didn’t pick up after their dog. Laura was fighting her own battles, but always had words of wisdom and encouragement to offer. One day, she was telling me that she was always there for me to talk to, and with a chuckle she told me never worry about her repeating anything because she would forget it in a little while because of her medicine. I never heard her say poor me, she took everything thrown her way in stride. One of my greatest memories with Laura was when Laura, her cousin, and I had a yard sale. I don’t remember much about how well the yard sale went, but I do remember that we had such a fun day spent together. Although my own circumstances did not allow me to be the friend that I wished to be, I hope that Laura knew that I appreciated her friendship, her encouragement, and her testimony.
