Mother Doretta S. Campbell entered life August 23, 1940 in Thomasville, Alabama as the daughter of the late Lucille Burroughs and the late Arthur James (Blue) Cleveland. She transitioned from this life into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 30, 2020.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents who raised her, Tom and Dora Williams, one brother, Isaiah Arga Burroughs, and two sisters, Ruby Nell Burroughs, and Irish Ann Burroughs.
She grew and matured in the loving community of Choctaw Corner located in Clarke County, Alabama where she was affectionately known as Baby Sister, Bay-bay, or Blue's Oldest Gal. Doretta was educated within the public-school system of Clarke County. On April 6, 1963, she united in Holy Matrimony with C. James Campbell. To this blessed union, two children were born.
Doretta confessed Christ at an early age and united with New Hope #1 Missionary Baptist under the leadership of late Rev. R.L. Short. Later after marrying and moving to Pensacola, Florida, she united with Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, under the guidance, the late Rufus Hill. She later moved her membership and joined with her beloved church, Damascus Road Missionary Baptist Church, under the anointed leadership of Reverend Dr. Earl F. Jackson. It was within the walls of this church, in which she blossomed, starting a Matrons group, working as the Church Clerk for over 30 years, serving as a Deaconess and eventually as a Mother. Doretta loved calling on the name of Jesus and was steadfast in her belief of divine reward.
She not only loved her family, but she loved people in general. Doretta "collected" people because she felt that they were all valuable and worthy. She "adopted" children, sisters, brothers, and friends. She would serve as counselor, confidante', and even occasionally as mediator. She always tried to do "what was decent and in order."
