Mary Elizabeth Corley
August 21, 1932 – January 27, 2020
Mary Elizabeth loved Christmas. She loved the story of the birth of Christ. She loved giving gifts to her friends and family much more than receiving gifts. In fact, receiving gifts made her uncomfortable, always telling anyone who gifted her that they shouldn’t have and they spent too much.
Having been born during the depression she valued her faith, family, and friends more than material objects. Mary Elizabeth was born in 1932 to Johnny and Clara Carlisle. She was the fourth of six children and adored her three brothers and two sisters. On June 4, 1949, she married the love of her life Arthur Hildred (Hill) Corley in Lucedale, Mississippi, with her mother and grandmother (Madie Garrett) as witnesses. They soon added to their family with a son William Arthur (Bill) and a daughter Rebecca Charlotte (Becky).
For most of her adult life Mary Elizabeth spent as a devoted wife and mother. After her children left the nest, she worked full-time at Gayfers Department Store at Town and Country Plaza as an associate in the Gift Wrap Department. Mary Elizabeth retired from Gayfers after 11 ½ years and began enjoying her new role as grandmother.
Mary Elizabeth was welcomed into heaven by Hill, her parents, Johnny and Clara; her sister, Clara Mae ; brother, Ernest; and her brother, George Donald; plus her grandparents; numerous in-laws; nephews; nieces; countless fur babies; and other family and friends. She is finally enjoying the homecoming she has looked forward to for so long.
Those left to cherish her memory include Bill, Becky, and her husband Ron; granddaughter, Cacie; and her husband, Chris; granddaughter, Robyn; grandson, Dylan; great grandson, Jake; great grandson, Collin; great grandson, Mason; sister Betty Beck, brother Thomas and his wife Bea, Goddaughter Patsy Bryan, nephews and nieces; her church family; her fur baby Katy; and many other family and friends.
