Garry Alan Owens, 59, died Wednesday afternoon, January 8, 2020, from complications of his quadriplegia.
Garry was born February 15, 1960 to Forrest and Joan Owens who were stationed in Guam while Forrest was serving in the Navy. The family’s Navy adventures eventually brought them to Pensacola FL. Much later Garry’s brother-in-law Erik Leto was serving as pastor at Pineview United Methodist Church where Garry was introduced to his future wife, Donna Pinckard. Garry and Donna were soon married and had their daughter Eryn. Several years later, their family was completed with son, Kaden.
Garry owned his own business, Owens Letter Press, and then worked at Cyrex Advanced Fabrics as an operator technician.
Due to a medical mishap, Garry was injured in 2010 and lost all feeling from the shoulders down. Garry was dependent on his family and nurses to care for his every need. Donna cared for Garry fervently up until her tragic death in an auto accident in April 2019. Under Donna’s care, Garry far outlived the normal life expectancy for a quadriplegic. Garry enjoyed simple things throughout his life: talking to people, watching movies, playing games, listening to music, saltwater fishing in his boat, and collecting hats. His frequent visits to doctor’s appointments and the hospital meant he met and befriended many people in the medical field. Under Donna’s watchful eyes, Garry had many nurses through the years that cared for him. He was the best patient ever and remained pleasant and nice to all right up until the end.
Garry is survived by his daughter Eryn Owens, his son Kaden Owens, his brother Forrest (Barbara) Owens, his sister Terri (Erik) Leto, his aunt Jane (Rob) Krauss, his in-laws Jack (Anne) Pinckard, Corie (Glen) Stull, Jacqueline (Jay) Wiscaver along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Garry was preceded in death by his wife Donna Pinckard Owens, parents Forrest and Joan Owens, and brother Jerry Owens.
Honorary pallbearers are James Crews, Myles Lambert, Dalton Lewis, Larry Moore, Jeff Schnoor, and Carl Small.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday January 13th 2020, at Pineview United Methodist Church. A celebration of life service will be held at 7 p.m., pastor Tony Antonelli will officiate. Garry will be interred beside his wife at Pineview Cemetery in Allentown Florida.
