Marvin R. Spellings, III, 51, of Pensacola, FL passed away on Tuesday, October 15th. He was born on May 3, 1968 in Cherry Point, NC.
Marvin participated yearly throughout his life in the local Special Olympic events which eventually consisted of a passion of his – bowling. Saturday mornings his ARC/Special Olympic geared leagues passioned Marvin a winner of medals, hearts and smiles. Sunday mornings you would find Marvin on the front row of church singing songs and praising God in only a way that Marvin could convey.
He graduated high school from Judy Andrews Center/Pine Forest High School in 1987 and immediately started making his mark working with ARC. A showman, Marvin was frequently cast in many lead roles in the multiple productions put on by the ARC which consisted solely of persons with disabilities. As he continued to thrive in life, Marvin eventually lived on his own with a life coach helping with the mundane tasks.
Anyone who knew of or actually knew Marvin, knew one of his greatest passions in life was the Movies and Music. Landing his job at the Movie theatre, at the time, was the job he dreamed of!! Marvin could recite with accuracy dated and releases, actors, ratings and miscellaneous trivia for past, present and movies not yet released. Want to know when a movie came out? …ask Marvin! When the movie theater reluctantly reduced its force, Marvin was on the prowl for a new passion and thankfully Tuscan Oven gave a shot. A new work family was formed for him and he would work there until he was unable to work any longer due to injury and illness. Special thanks to Ted and Deanna.
As life, as hard as life can be, it pushed its way to force Marvin, who could no longer live alone, so he moved into the Arcadia Health and Rehabilitation Center. Here he found more friends and more family and after 3 years here, he peacefully passed, finding his way to his final home, certainly singing songs in Heaven in only a way Marvin could convey, in his own way, like always.
In life, Marvin never knew a cruel word and never found anyone who he didn’t consider a friend and in that alone, his mark was left on the rest of us, and this is how he will be remembered.
Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Rose Pounders(Mickey); brother, Cosmo Spellings (Heather); nephews Kristian and Carter Spellings; niece, Kendall Spellings; step brothers Timmy, Kevin and Kris Pounders; aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends; as well as many friends and extra special family at Arcadia.
You are invited to join us in a celebration of Marvin’s life this Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Trahan Family Funeral Home. Visitation is 3:00 with service to follow at 4:00.
In lieu of flowers, you may donate to ARC Gateway or to your favorite charity, in his name. Thank you.
