Obituary

Raymond W. Garrison, age 90 died peacefully Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at his home in Milton, FL.

Ray leaves his wife of 43 years, Roberta Garrison; his daughter, Sandra Jenkins and her husband Jeff (North Carolina), and his grandchildren Brittany and Jeffrey Jenkins; his faithful companion Mazie and many friends.

Ray was born and raised in Hoquiam, WA in July 1929. In his early years, Ray enjoyed playing sports, most notably basketball. After graduating from Hoquiam North High School in 1947, he attended the University of Washington. Ray joined the US Navy in 1949, was appointed to pilot training in 1951 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and Jet Pilot in the US Marine Corp in June 1953. He remained active in the reserves until 1966 attaining the rank of Major USMC.

After leaving active service, Ray obtained his Bachelors and Masters degrees at San Jose State University. Following graduation, Ray went on to teach World Geography and US History for 20 years at Washington High School in Fremont, CA where he also coached men’s basketball. Ray also worked in the Financial Services industry selling investments until his retirement in 1991.

For those that know him, Ray always had a great story and often recalled his days as a Marine pilot. Most notably his days in South Florida and at Cherry Point. In his later years, Ray particularly enjoyed talking about flying with many young Marines in the neighborhood all whom enjoyed every story.

A service will be held at the Barrancas National Cemetery at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola on November 22, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life luncheon for friends and family back in the neighborhood.
