My journey began May 9, 1934, in Waycross, Georgia when I was born as the fifth child of Alfred Williams and Lucy Darby Williams. My journey lasted 85 years and ended in Pruitt Health Rehabilitation Center in Milton, Florida on October 12, 2019.
Psalms 37:23 NLT says “The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.” My life was a true testament to the scripture.
I was raised in a crowed but loveable household with six siblings primarily by my mom because dad passed at an early age. After graduating from high school there were very few job opportunities so I decided to join the U. S. Navy. I ended up in Milton, Florida during my first tour of duty where I met my lovely wife Barbara Dees and we were married the following year.
The career path I took in the Navy was to be a cook because we had limited choices during that period of time. I really enjoyed my first shipboard duty because I was assigned to work in the wardroom cooking for the officers.
Once I retired from the U. S. Navy, I began attending church to set a good example for my three children at first. The more I read the bible the more it created a hunger within me to gain more knowledge about the Lord, Jesus Christ. Years later, I faithfully and willingly joined the church Choir, Usher Board, Trustee Board, Mission Department, became a Deacon, and served as the church Chef.
The Lord has been very good to me and I ask that he continues to watch over my family, my church family, and the Milton community that I have enjoyed being so much a part of over these many years.
Before the end of my journey, I was preceded in death by both my parents Alfred Williams and Lucretia “Lucy” Darby Williams, (2 brothers) Alfred Williams, Jr. and Bobby Jack Williams, Sr., (4 sisters) Cora Reid, Elizabeth Tindle, Lucy Powell, and Dorothy McElroy; (2 sons) Donald Williams and Larry Williams.
I leave to cherish my memory, my wife Barbara J. Williams of Milton, FL; daughter Debbie (James) Barry of Milton, FL; god-daughter Tiffany Taylor of Stockbridge, GA; sisters-in-law Rosetta Williams of Chesapeake, VA, Evelyn Cash, Mary McCray, Freda Dees and Iris Dees all of Pensacola, FL; brothers-in-law Wilbert Dees of Pensacola, FL and Ivan Dees of Jacksonville, FL; daughter-in-law Bessie Williams of Milton, FL; granddaughters Tynisha Williams of Hampton, VA, Courtney (Terriol) Davis of Pensacola, FL, and Jamila Williams of Milton, FL; grandsons Vinson (Carrie) Barry of Wellsville, KS, Marcus Williams of Pensacola, FL and Marques Williams of Milton, FL. A host of nieces and nephews that refers to me as their favorite uncle. Great-grandchildren, cousins, and friends.
