R.E. “Buz” Fike, 92, passed away August 17, 2019 in Pensacola, FL. Born in West Leisenring, PA, on December 8, 1926 to Asa and Winifred Fike, Buz graduated from North Union High School and then served in the Army Air Corps at the end of WWII. He was ultimately stationed in Hawaii to entertain troops on R&R. Upon returning home, he met and fell in love with “the prettiest girl in the patch”, Elsie Jane Hallo. After graduation from Waynesburg College with a BA in Mathematics, he went to work at Household Finance Co. in Uniontown, PA and married Elsie in 1952. Buz was transferred to the Pensacola, FL office of HFC in 1957 and retired in 1985 after 33 years. Soon after retiring he went to work at State Mortgage as a mortgage broker for 12 years.
Buz had a natural musical talent playing trombone, piano, guitar, ukulele, and bass, and was a member of the marching band throughout high school, military service and college. He had a lifelong love of baseball, golf, and football (Go Steelers!) and enjoyed bowling, tennis, photography, pinochle, and taking Biloxi trips. He and Elsie loved to travel, with Hawaii a favorite destination. Buz had an epic sweet tooth and said there’s always room for dessert.
Buz was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie (Hallo) Fike: his parents; brother, James David Fike; and sister, Dora Mae Bailey.
Left to cherish memories are his children, David (Sharon) Fike, Atlanta, GA; Diane (Al) Cheney, Robertsdale, AL; and Sandra (Rick) Franklin, Pensacola, Fl; sister, Delores Owens and niece, Susan Miller, CA; and special niece and nephew Cathy and Marty Munley, Orlando, FL.
Interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery.
