Obituary

Roderick Dion Walker was born in Milton, Florida on February 4, 1976 to the late Willie Gamble and the late Dianne Walker, went to be with the Lord on July 30, 2019. Rod was his mother’s only child and the sixth child of nine siblings on his father’s side.

He had a brother who preceded him in death, Demario Black of Mansfield, Ohio.

Rod accepter Christ at an early age and enjoyed serving on the junior usher board, singing in the pastor’s choir and later the young adult choir. He was affectionately known by family and friends as Roddy, Big Rod or Fruitty.

Rod graduated from Milton High School class of 1994. In high school his talent at football led him to play collegiately at Troy State University. He went on to play for the Washington Redskins, the Tennessee Titans and the Green Bay Packers. He retired from the NFL as a defensive tackle for the Green Bay Packers. He then resided in Atlanta, Georgia for several years before moving to Mobile, Alabama to be closer to his son.

Rod leaves to cherish his memory his son, Tyler Jarod Walker of Mobile, Alabama; five sisters: Renne Isby of Columbus, Ohio, Millicent Gamble of Mansfield, Ohio, Ellen Scott of Phoenix, Arizona, Andrea Renfroe of Marietta, Georgia and Brandy Gamble of Calene, Texas; two brothers, Deshawn Black of Mansfield, Ohio and Chris Scott of Yazoo City, Mississippi; four uncles: Willie Hayes, Alonzo “Sam” Samuel, Earl (Angie) Walker all of Milton, Florida and Wayne Walker Sr. of Pensacola, Florida; three aunts: Charyl “Penny” Walker, Linda (Paul) Parker both of Milton, Florida and Vivian Walker of Houston, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Very dear friends, Autara Armaly and Carol-Ann King Stoddart and many, many more who will miss him dearly.

I went to Troy State with Rod. He may have looked intimidating but he was such a sweetheart. My hurt broke when I heard the news. Rest in Heave Rod...you are and will continue to be missed.
