John (Mike) Stokes, age 64 went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 29, 2019
at West Florida Hospital, in Pensacola, Florida. He was born on October 13, 1954 in Lakeland, Florida. He was born to the parents Aileen (Player) Newkirk and E.J. Heinz, then reared by Mildred (King) and John Stokes.
He was an amazing Father, husband, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was talented in so many ways and would go out of his way to help someone who needed it. He served in the U.S. Air Force, then later on he served as a Correctional Officer in the State Prison. Mike was married to Ruth Perez for 19 years, and to that union two daughters were born.
John leaves to cherish his memory wife, Marilyn Stokes; sons and daughters: Christina Stokes (Anthony), Erin Snearly, Darin Franklin (Nora), Shanti Byrd (Aisha); Grandchildren: Edward, Lamontrae, Desmond, Nikolai, Jakie, Aishan, and Makayla; along with God-children: Merrick, Carter, Camiyah, and Davontrae; his brothers Craig Newkirk, and Eddie Newkirk; his sister's Rongretia Burton (Albert), Sandra Moss; Aunt's Jenny, and Linda Kirk; special Aunt Francis, special Uncle Ben; Brother-in-law's Albert Williams, Sean Salter, Monroe and Jeff Hill; As well as niece's, nephew's, cousins, special cousins: Joyce Singleton, Paula Neet (Tommy), Jerry Williams and Teresa, lifelong friends Papi, Mike, Ed, Edwena Watts, Johnny Barja, Special friend Margaret "big foe". He will be truly missed by a host of friends, family, and his church family of Bagdad First Assembly, men's and lady’s prayer groups, prime timers, as well as Mt. Pilgrim African Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 6, 2019, from 11:30 until services start at 1:00 p.m., at Bagdad First Assembly of God, burial to follow at Milton Keyser Cemetery.
