Obituary

Perry Varner, 82, of Milton passed away on June 22, 2019. He was born on January 16, 1937 and was raised by Fred and Eeler Varner.

Perry spent most of his childhood in Athens, GA and later settled in Oglethorpe County, GA. He joined the U.S. Army as a young man and spent six years in the service with four being spent overseas in Germany. His days in the military were some of his fondest memories that he spoke of often.

Perry was a jack of all trades and a master of none, but he was best at bringing people joy through his cooking. He spent many years working at Waffle House and never met a stranger along the way. But his greatest joy was his family, and whether it was catching a bass or changing the oil in your car, Dad always took the time to teach us what we needed to know.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Don Varner.

Perry leaves behind: his wife, Lois F. Varner; son, Clifford (Deanna) Varner of Gulf Breeze, FL; daughter, Belle (Joe) Mullins of Milton, FL; grandchildren, Kami, Akasha, Val, Tara, Donavan, Chase, and Maddie; sister, Judy Rarrick of Indiana; and many extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be held from 11:15 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Trahan Family Funeral Home, 419 Yoakum Court, Pensacola, FL 32505.

Graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery.

To my friend Perry and his family I wrote this on my Facebook page and I still cry every time I read this...I still dont know if Ill be able to hold it together when I am there Thursday...I cant believe Perry and I formed such a friendship in such a short time. I really enjoyed my time with him and I will miss him. Anyways here is what I wrote....

It is with heavy heart and sorrow..a man who befriended me in my neighborhood...where you never would expect it...his name was Perry Varner...passed away today. I got to know him and his little dog Chubs and then his family. He fell and ended up in a rehabilitation place for awhile...I went and visited him several times a week..and then his family moved from the neighborhood. I missed seeing him and Chubs and went to visit in their new home. Anyways he contracted a virus and then put him back in the rehabilitation place which he would never leave this time. Slowly but surely you could see the spirit slip away from this brave soul who befriended me. I cooked him meals to take there to cheer him up and sat and just talked about nothing just to spend time with him...because really I enjoyed being with him. He was a Korean War Vet....and he loved doing painting by numbers....and of course his dog Chubs. I'm going to miss you my friend....Farewell.
