David Richard Critchley walked through the gates of Heaven on Monday, March 11, 2019, after a 12-year courageous battle of complications due to a spinal cord injury. He was born on May 25, 1947 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to his parents, Gordon B. Critchley and Inez V. Critchley. Shortly after becoming a United States citizen, he served his country in the United States Marine Corps attaining the rank of Sgt. He was a Vietnam Veteran, having completed a tour of duty along the DMZ at Khe Sanh , Vietnam in 1967-68. David was then attached to the “President’s Own” Marine Corps Band, an assignment he loved. Following his honorable discharge, he was employed by the federal government, working with the United States Park Police, NASA, and the Defense Information Systems Agency. He loved reading, Nascar and music, and was proud to be a musician in The Salvation Army National Capital Band in Washington, D.C. He was a member of The Salvation Army, the Disabled American Veterans, Vietnam Veterans, and the Veteran Riders.
David was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Elizabeth Anne Grant; and wife, Linda C. Critchley.
He is survived by his children, Stacy Groves (David) of Aynor, SC, and David R. Critchley, II (Kim) of Conway, SC; and a stepson, Marc Christopher (Jeanne) of Arlington, VA; his grandchildren, Mikenna Critchley, Victoria Critchley, Wyatt Critchley and Heaven Groves; his siblings, Donald G. Critchley (Marian) of Triangle, VA, Janet C. Cunningham(Richard) of Forest, VA and Susan B. Perryman (Mark) of Fredericksburg, VA; and a special friend and caregiver, Gloria Watson of Pensacola, FL.
Visitation will take place on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. at Trahan Family Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 9:30 a.m., with Captain Herb Frazier of The Salvation Army officiating. Burial will take place at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors.
