Evelene Henderson Montgomery (known as Betty by her family and friends) was born on October 9, 1948 to Lillian Henderson and Ervin Richardson in Pineapple, AL.
During her tender years Betty was raised by her maternal grandmother, Bertha Henderson. In 1954 she moved to Birmingham, AL with her grandmother where she began her early childhood education at Lincoln Elementary.
Betty later moved to Pensacola, FL with her mother where she completed her education. They joined Englewood Baptist Church.
Although it was demanding, Betty enjoyed her job and retired from Corry Field Naval Air Station after 28 years of service.
Betty loved children which made her a loving aunt and cousin. She met Horace Montgomery and they married June 5, 1980. To this union one child was born, Delmarsha. Betty was excited about being a mother. She became a mother again when she adopted her oldest grandchild, Nykeirra, who remained in her care.
Betty’s sense of humor often resulted in laughter bigger than the moon. She enjoyed many fun memories with her family and friends. She was a devoted mother, daughter and even in failing health she remained a devoted grandmother. Her love was truly unconditional.
Betty’s mother and father preceded her in death along with other family members. To cherish and honor her memory Betty leaves her husband, Horace Montgomery; daughters, Delmarsha and Ny’keirra Montgomery; grandchildren Na’Zhavion, De’Adriaen, Rhyann, Ja’Tomi, and Yashua; stepdaughters, Jill (Danny) Holwerda and Clyneice (Frank) Brown; siblings, Leroy Jr., Donald (Constance) Monroe and stepsister, Nellie Miles; aunts, Lovan Watson and Edna (Norman) Ross; nieces, Winter and Raven Monroe; cousins and a host of other family and friends.
Betty was a beautiful person on both the inside and outside and will be missed but not forgotten. She will forever live in our hearts.
