Obituary for Trudi Gaines
Trudi Heerdman Gaines of Pace, Florida passed away on Saturday, January 6th, 2018.
Born in Hamburg, Germany to Lidia Harbart and Cheslaw Glowacki in 1949, she immigrated to the United states in 1953 and lived in Linden, New Jersey where she attended school and was graduated from Linden High School. She received her B.A. From Drew University in German Literature and her Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Kean University. After moving to Pace, Florida in 1996 she became a licensed mental health counselor and practiced her profession for the next ten years during which time she earned a sterling reputation among her clients in both Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. Focusing then on education she pursued a doctorate in education from the University of West Florida and did so in 2005 graduating summa cum laude. Trudi was recognized and received an award as an outstanding adviser by the University and was loved and respected by her many students and colleagues.
While teaching at U.W.F. Trudi was able to make many substantial contributions in peer reviewed journals. Civic minded, she gladly gave of her time to various organizations and was a volunteer for Hospice. In many instances her interventions in lives of various people in need helped them to recover their lives and dignity once more.
Her hobbies and interests included reading voraciously, running, gym workouts gardening, needlepoint and bestowing enormous amounts of love on her Pomeranians. In 2017 she earned her coveted tenured position of associate professor, her crowning academic achievement.
Trudi was preceded in death by her mother and father and is survived by her husband, Michael; sister, Ingrid Edge; nephews Alex, Andrew, and Aaron Edge and is also loved and cherished by her four step-grandchildren; Alicia and Andrea Gaines, Sean and Kevin Reilly and their parents Michael and Mary Gaines and Jennifer and Brian Reilly.
Visitation for friends will be held on Thursday, January 11th, from 6:15pm to 8:00pm with a memorial service following immediately at the Trahan Family Funeral Home, 6539 Trammel Dr. in Milton.
